Naughty Dog’s creative director Neil Druckmann was interviewed. In the interview, he was asked about the fate of the upcoming Last of Us multiplayer and the potential development of The Last of Us Part III.
Neil Druckmann kept his mouth shut about Last of Us fate
In response to recent reports suggesting that TLoU multiplayer project has been put on hold, Druckmann provided little clarity, stating that he has “no updates” on the matter, and declined to comment on a potential third installment in the series.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Druckmann expressed his deep love for the game’s world and acknowledged the passion both the studio and fans have for the series. However, he was evasive about any future developments beyond focusing on TLoU Part II Remastered, which is scheduled for release.
Druckmann revealed that Naughty Dog has other projects in the works. While he’s previously stated that the studio has already picked its next game, it’s unclear whether this is the rumored sci-fi game The Last of Us: Part III or a completely different project. Despite fans’ persistent desire for a third installment in the series, Druckmann emphasized that the studio is moving forward with its next project and that the decision is finalized.
Recent news touching on games’ multiplayer indicated that Naughty Dog had halted development of the game following a review by Destiny developer Bungie. Meanwhile, the studio is gearing up for The Last of Us Part II Remastered, which is scheduled for release on PS5 in January 2024.
Season 2 of the game’s TV series will start filming in January 2024. Unfortunately, as we mentioned before, this is also delayed. What do you think about Druckman’s statements? Please don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments.
